DIYNation is a network of bloggers writing about various DIY topics. Anyone can browse the site without charge, and a blogger who meets our Editorial Standards and agrees to our Terms of Use can apply to contribute original content to the DIYNation site, as an Editorial Content Publisher or as an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher. Bloggers can also apply as an DIYNation Advertising Publisher to accept advertising sold by DIYNation.
DIYNation is a managed vertical network, or MVN, that aggregates select DIY-related content from DIYNation editorial publisher blogs onto the DIYNation site. DIYNation is a free resource and reference tool for anyone looking to browse blogs with DIY-related content. Individuals with a DIY-related blog can apply for one of our DIYNation memberships to contribute editorial content from their blog to the DIYNation site and/or to accept advertisements sold by DIYNation on their blogs.
If you have a DIY-related blog, you can apply to join DIYNation either as an Editorial Content Publisher, as an Advertising Publisher, or as both an Editorial Content & Advertising Partner:
Editorial Content Publisher: If accepted as an Editorial Content Publisher, you agree to supply original, editorial content from your blog potentially to be published on the DIYNation site. DIYNation editors may then select content from your blog that meets the DIYNation Editorial Standards and Terms of Use, before publishing the content on the DIYNation site. In effect, your blog posts that are published on the DIYNation site increase the opportunity to drive traffic to your blog. You will also have the opportunity to place a DIYNation widget on your blog potentially to move traffic to both the DIYNation site and to your site.
Advertising Publisher: If accepted as an Advertising Publisher, you agree to accept advertising sold by DIYNation on your blog. When DIYNation advertising blocks are displayed on your site, you will have an opportunity to earn revenue based on the DIYNation revenue model. Ads sold by DIYNation will be displayed on blogs accepted as Advertising Publishers, subject to advertiser needs, inventory availability and other factors that we may take into consideration in our sole discretion. Click here to read more about the DIYNation revenue model. You will also have the opportunity to place a DIYNation widget on your blog; the widget has the potential to move traffic to your site if your blog’s content is featured in the widget.
Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher: If accepted as an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher, you not only agree to supply original editorial content from your blog potentially to be published on the DIYNation site, but you also agree to accept advertising sold by DIYNation on your blog. When DIYNation advertising blocks are displayed on your site, you will have an opportunity to earn revenue based on the DIYNation revenue model. Ads sold by DIYNation will be displayed on blogs accepted as Editorial Conent & Advertising Publishers, subject to advertiser needs, inventory availability and other factors that we make take into consideration in our sole discretion. Click here to read more about the DIYNation revenue model. You will also have the opportunity to place a DIYNation widget on your blog to potentially move traffic to both the DIYNation site and to your site if your blog’s content is featured in the widget.
Time Inc., the largest magazine publisher in the United States and among the largest in the world with 22 magazines and more than 25 Web sites under its umbrella, owns the DIYNation brand and, through its custom publishing division, Time Inc. Content Solutions, will be managing the marketing, advertising and editorial aspects of DIYNation. Customerforce.com Inc. owns the DIYNation technology platform and manages the relationship with DIYNation publisher members. Customerforce’s Fatvine platform builds online content and advertising networks. This solution is designed to grow audience and revenue for Web site bloggers while combining content across complementary web properties for advertisers.
For readers, the DIYNation site is free to use without signing up. However, individuals looking to apply to DIYNation as an Editorial Content Publisher must fill out a brief application and accept our Terms of Use. Potential Editorial Content & Advertising Publishers and Advertising Publishers also must complete a brief application and accept our DIYNation Digital Network Member Agreement. After you submit your application for one of the DIYNation memberships, the DIYNation staff will review your blog based on editorial standards and other criteria. Applicants will be informed via e-mail, typically within two to three weeks, if they are accepted to join DIYNation.
Your blog may be accepted to join DIYNation at our sole discretion. Your blog must meet several requirements before your application to join DIYNation is accepted. These include:
Content on your blog must be related to one of our five primary DIYNation categories: Quick Fixes, Projects, Design, Outdoors and Materials.
Content on your blog must be updated at least weekly. (Please note that the more often your blog is updated, the more likely your content will appear regularly on the DIYNation site).
Content must be appropriate: among other things, bloggers may not post pornographic or other unacceptable adult-themed material, including produced or member-generated adult images; content must not violate or infringe upon the rights of others, be unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy rights and must not contain other violations that are not in keeping with our Terms of Use.
We also review a number of other factors while considering your application including, but not limited to, site traffic and general site content. Contact us for more information on the DIYNation member requirements or to apply to be a member of DIYNation.
Sweepstakes and contest content is not permitted on the DIYNation site. Bloggers who choose to run sweepstakes or contests on their individual blogs must put the word, “Sweepstakes” or “Contest” in the headline of any blog entry about a sweepstakes or contest. This will enable DIYNation to catch that blog post when it is aggregating content to prevent sweepstakes or contest content posts from appearing on the DIYNation site. If your blog post referring to a sweepstakes or contest does appear on the DIYNation site, we have the right to remove it immediately. DIYNation bears no responsibility for the sweepstakes or contests its bloggers promote or for ensuring those sweepstakes or contests adhere to local, state or federal regulations.
Acceptance typically takes from two to three weeks. If accepted, you will be informed in an e-mail that includes instructions on how to set up your account and access the array of tools available to DIYNation Publishers.
Each day, DIYNation will publish content from our Editorial Content Publishers and Editorial Content & Advertising Publishers in the DIYNation network. DIYNation editors will select the best content to grow traffic for the DIYNation site, as editors determine in their sole discretion. If you publish content more frequently, and if your content is of high editorial quality, there is a higher likelihood that it could be selected more often to populate the DIYNation site. We also pull content from our Editorial Content Publishers and Editorial & Advertising Publishers randomly using a technical algorithm, but our editors will review the content first to make sure it fits our Editorial Standards and meets our Terms of Use. As DIYNation site visitors click on appealing content, an “impression,” or a click-thru, is created when visitors are driven to DIYNation Publisher sites from the DIYNation site. We also offer a set of tools to help DIYNation bloggers build traffic to their sites.
No. When you apply to join DIYNation, you can select the type of membership you would like to have. Editorial Content Publishers do not display advertising. You may also apply to join DIYNation as an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher, in which you supply original editorial content to the DIYNation site while additionally agreeing to display advertising blocks from the DIYNation site on your blog. Or, you may apply to be an Advertising Publisher only, in which case you will have the opportunity to earn revenue based on the DIYNation revenue model, when DIYNation advertisements are displayed on your site. See the DIYNation Digital Network Member Agreement for more detail about your rights and obligations as an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher, and as an Advertising Publisher.
Joining DIYNation as an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher or an Advertising Publisher has the potential to help you generate revenue from the additional click-thrus that DIYNation may generate for its Publishers. If a DIYNation-sold advertisement runs on your site, your blog will display either cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-1000-impression (CPM) advertisements. This means that advertisers pay either when users click on ads or when the advertiser’s ad is shown on your site. You’ll receive a portion of the amount paid for either activity on your web site. Our goal is to enable publishers to make as much or even more money than they could with other advertising networks.
Monthly advertising reports generated by DIYNation will show your blog’s traffic before and after you joined to become an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher or an Advertising Publisher. You will also be able to see the total number of page and ad unit impressions, ad clicks, click-through rates, effective CPM, and your total earnings so you can get an idea of how well the program is performing for you and how much you can expect to earn over time as an Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher or an Advertising Publisher.
Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher or Advertising Publisher payments are issued on or about the 30th day after the end of the month in which they were collected from the advertiser. This time frame may vary, as it can take up to 90 days or longer for some of the slower-paying advertising agencies. It is our responsibility to deal with collections from advertisers and agencies so that you are paid as quickly as possible but we are not liable if an advertiser ultimately does not pay us.
The widget is an appealing block of copy, with images, that appears on the sites of any DIYNation Publishers who agree to display it. The widget includes links to the DIYNation site as well as links to other DIYNation Editorial Content Publishers’ and Editorial Content & Advertising Publishers’ blogs. In choosing to display a DIYNation widget on your site, you increase the opportunity for traffic to your site, and to other DIYNation Editorial Content Publisher and Editorial Content & Advertising Publisher sites. The bottom line: the more traffic generated within DIYNation Publisher sites, and back and forth from DIYNation to content bloggers, the more successful DIYNation will be! As a DIYNation Publisher, we encourage you to use the widget to drive more traffic to DIYNation. See a sample of the widget below:
Please read our Terms of Use, to which all bloggers must agree before joining DIYNation. Additionally, Editorial & Advertising Publishers and Advertising Publishers must agree to the DIYNation Digital Network Member Agreement.
